Our co-founders, Trey and Pearson, have been best friends since first grade at Woodland Presbyterian Day school in Memphis. Their families taught them to work hard for what they earned and always give back when they could.

At a young age they both watched their parents run local soup kitchens or act as second parents to countless young students in need of guidance. Trey and Pearson both have grandfathers who served in the military in WWII, and they grew up admiring the bravery and honor of their service. This instilled in them the importance of serving their community.
When Trey’s college roommate, Sean, returned from Iraq, he watched him struggle to cope with his experiences and his transition back into civilian life. Trey wanted so desperately to help. He invited Sean out to his family farm,
Oak View Stables, to let him groom and ride horses. Trey and Pearson watched as the veteran used that time to escape, to relax, and to connect with the horses. Slowly he seemed to heal. Spending time at the farm, working with the horses
helped him navigate the intense experiences and memories that had followed him home from war. Trey and Pearson then decided to spread this healing to other veterans in the community, thus WarHorses for Heroes came to be.
The people and equines of WarHorses for Heroes make up an ever-growing family that strives to serve our veterans in every way possible. Our instructors and volunteers create a safe and therapeutic environment while keeping it fun and relaxed.
